Catch!

I may have mentioned that Bella does not understand the concept of how to catch a toy.  She always tries to use her paws instead of catching it in her mouth.  My working theory is that she skipped a lot of days in Being a Dog 101.  However, perhaps I wasn’t giving her enough credit – the Beagle in the video below has taking catching with his paws to a whole new level.

Maybe I just didn’t nurture Bella’s talents… with a little work, perhaps Bella could have been quite the little athlete.

(If you just can’t get enough of this adorable breed, go test your Beagle knowledge with this quiz.)

  1. That's really quite clever Beagie! I play the same game with Poppet, but she never manages to catch it – just bats back 🙂 Love the cat video BTW, I wonder how long that went on for 😀

  2. See you were doing it all wrong. You needed to emphasis her own skills a little more. 🙂 Now you just need to work with her a little more so she can have her own video of catching the ball!!

  3. Oh I love that! What a smart little pup! Great positive reinforcement from the handler, too. 🙂

  4. That video is so cute. What a smart doggie. Bella, you need to learn to do that. Too cute. Hope you have a fantastic week

  5. That is such a cute video!! I've never seen a dog catch like that before!! Bella, we bet you could do it if!! Lots of love, Holly & Mom

  6. Wow – even our human Mom can't catch a ball like that! We go for the pounce method rather than catch and try and lie flat on it so no one can get it back! Dex & Lou x

  7. Katy tends to be a paws first girl, too. She is learning to catch with her mouth, but her first instinct is her paws.

  8. That is SO ADORABLE CUTE! Felix never quite caught the idea behind "catch" either. No matter what you throw at him – a treat, a toy, whatever – he lets it hit him between the eyes. Poor sad simple Felix 😉

  9. That's so cute! Any old dog can catch a ball in his mouth, it takes a truly unique puppy to learn how to catch it with his paws. Bella is just way ahead of the curve. 🙂 I'd love to teach this as a trick!

  10. Oh, great, you've given Kristine more trick ideas! 🙂

I think it's amazing a bunch of North Americans are watching an Asian dog do tricks via YouTube!

  11. Riley tries to do that sometimes too. She is very much a "pawer." She likes to do everything with her paws. She has learned to catch a ball with her mouth, but she also puts her paws up to try to catch it at the same time!

  12. Woof! Woof! Golden Hello. How COOL!!! … I wish I can do that but you just gave my mom ideas … Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

  13. Fabulous!! I think the LOTH's favourite football team Leeds United might be interested in signing him up as a goalkeeper for next season.

  14. That's hillarious, I still can't get Kirby to catch a ball in his mouth as he always wants to use his paws too! I think we just may work on this one…too cute!!

  15. I'm pretty sure Ty is beyond hope when it comes to catching. We've tried to teach him on and off over the past 6.5 years, but he still doesn't get it. It seems he never learned to look up, because when you toss the toy to him it usually bounces of his head. =(
