The accidental Halloween costume

It’s time for the big reveal.  What will Bella be for Halloween?

To be honest, I don’t have the heart to make Bella wear a Halloween costume when she’s already stuck in a cone.  (She’s not a huge fan of being dressed up even when she’s in a good mood.)

However, the new cone appears to have a silver lining… literally.  This weekend, we discovered that the cone has some reflective qualities.  As a result, photos taken with a flash end up like this:

Have you guessed it yet?   Keep reading…

She’s going as a flashlight!

Poor Coney Island.  The insults never stop coming… I even got some of this snazzy flashlight action on video:

What’s your pet’s Halloween costume this year?

UPDATE: I just got a call from the vet – Bella’s lump was benign!  Yay!

UPDATE 2: It’s a Halloween Parade Blog Hop from afFURmation

  1. OMG I love the flashlight – that is hilarious. I had no idea they had reflective pipping on it, either way she is still a cutie.
    Fred hates dressing up too.

  2. Hahaha! I hate to laugh at Bella's misfortune but… Now that I know her lump was benign I feel a lot less guilty. That video is crazy! Bella wins the prize for originality and spookiness!

  3. Oh, no! Poor Bella, having to be in the cone of shame. I do love the flashlight look for the holiday, though! Glad she's okay.

  4. WEll that sure is a new one. A flashlight. That is so cute. Looks like Bella is not crazy about this idea. We would rather be dead than put a contest on our bodies. We are just going to look at everyone else's costume.

  5. OMD! She's an alien flashlight! Look at her eyes glow in the video!! So glad she is ok! Cosmo's costume seems to have some reflective qualities too. We'll need to shoot some pics in the dark next!

  6. My LOTH says her dad told her there used to be a TV programme called Torchy the Battery Boy.

I think a flashlight is good.

    Poor Bella.

    Love and licks, Winnie

  7. Hahahahaha! A flashlight! We love it! And feel sorry for Bella at the same time. Glad she likes that new cone better though. Chloe had to wear that Comfy Cone (or whatever they're called) when she had her surgery back in March. She did better with that than with the plastic one.

Hooray for Bella's lump being benign!!!!! Great news!

  8. Hi Y'all,

Hey there Bella you look pretty snazzy as a flashlight! If you've got to wear the cone you might as well have some fun with it. Right?

    Y'all come by now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  9. I almost feel bad mocking a poor pup that is suffering this way. *almost* but not quite bad enough to quit snickering at your Ciney Island jokes. Love the flashlight. She needs a motto "Shining a light on the plight of Coneheads everywhere!"

  10. Oh, I'm SO glad about Bella's test results! What a relief!

This is pretty hilarious. πŸ™‚ Now I kind of want to put our comfy cone back on the dogs just to try it. (But I'm not that mean.)

  11. Thank you everyone for the kind words! It was such a relief to get the good news yesterday. πŸ™‚

houndstooth – She could totally be an alien too!

Hound Girl – We didn't realize it either until the photos were glowing.

Talking Dogs – Spotlight would work too. πŸ™‚

Kristine – I do feel better about laughing at her now that I know she's okay!

Jan – I should totally embellish her a little.

Marg – Bella usually feels the same way. She's not a fan of wearing stuff.

Diane – I can't wait to see your spooky photos!

Pamela – She may have looked like a flashlight, but I guess she didn't want to act the part.

Winnie – I have never heard of Torchy the Battery Boy. I'll be Googling it in a moment!

Ryker – It's like Rudolph… "you could even say she glows…"

Life Student – She did look pretty freaky!

Koly – That should totally be her motto!

Elizabeth – I don't think JF or Dewi would appreciate that!

    24 Paws – She so does. πŸ™‚

  12. Congrats on the news from the vet, I am sure you must be so relieved! LOVE the flashlight costume- way to be creative. I can't feel that bad for laughing at her because seriously could she be more adorable in that video? I think it is physically impossible to watch it and not smile (especially now that we know she is ok).

  13. Hi Bella! How many stations can you pick up on that satellite dish lol!! Glad to hear you're going on okay, hope you're 100% real soon, Dex and Lou xxx

  14. Roo – She'll definitely have a unique costume!

Karen and Pearl – Thanks so much! Although I really can't take credit for being creative – it just happened to glow when we took a photo! πŸ™‚

Stacy – She definitely seems to prefer this one.

Dex and Lou – She's hanging in there… tons of energy yesterday and today! I think she's had about enough of the cone.

  15. Awhh, poor Bella!! I guess if one must wear the cone of shame, it's good to have one that glows just in time for Halloween. Instant costume!! She kind of looks like a cross between a flashlight and an alien, but please don't tell her I said that. πŸ™‚ I hope she's able to shed the cone soon. Happy Halloween!!

  16. KP – Thanks!

Kristin – The glowing eyes were a bit alien-like. πŸ™‚

dawn – I think she'd choose costume at this point. She really hates the cone!

  17. I love the flashlight! I once saw someone turn an e-collar into a Direct TV dish! It is a very clever spin on a somewhat embarrassing situation. Way to pull it off Bella!!

  18. flashlight! awesome and so funny. poor, poor bella! thank goodness everything turned out OK when the vet called. HOORAY!

  19. Doodling Dogs – The DirectTV dish is a great idea too! Have to find a way to have fun even when things are not ideal. πŸ™‚

Lauren – Thanks! I was definitely doing a happy dance when he called!
