Another hot dog story… with a twist!

Item I saw in today’s Washington Post:

I love this for multiple reasons:

  1. It’s just darn funny.
  2. I was just skimming the Metro section of the paper and stumbled across it.
  3. I started to read the item and get angry… until I got to the twist.
  4. Even though it’s funny, I’m glad that someone called the authorities when they thought a dog was in distress.  Better safe than sorry.

That being said, remember that dogs of the non-wooden variety won’t fare so well in this terrible heat.  So make sure to keep your dog cool this summer!

  1. Good question… I hope that people were smart and brought their dogs inside. If not, I hope that there were some kind souls out there like these people who tried to do something when they thought they saw a dog in distress!

  2. That is funny!!! I'm glad the officers did check on the dog though…even if it wasn't a real dog!! Lots of love, Debbie & Holly

  3. Well, I guess it's good that people called to complain. But why not just go over to check out the dog's condition first and bringing some cold water? That is so weird.

  4. Good point, Pamela. Though not knowing the neighborhood/exact location, there's always the possibility they couldn't get in the yard or had some reason they felt uncomfortable doing so? Hard to say… but at least in this case it turned out to be just a statue!

  5. I once saw a dog in a car in a parking lot, hot hot hot day, with the window cracked… I called the SPCA and got a MACHINE. I left the license plate, but I'm sure nothing happened.

I barely let my poor dog out these days, I'm so worried about heat stroke. I don't think he appreciates it.

  6. Lol reminds me of the time my son saw a wooden cutout of a moose by the road and insisted he saw a real moose!

  7. Although this one turned out to be wooden, it is a good thing that someone called. It could have been real, and if no one called, it could have been in danger. So like you said, better safe than sorry. That being said, I probably would have gone up to it to make sure it was real first. BOL.

  8. I love this! This would so be me calling on a wood statue!
On a serious note it's good to know that people are aware of the dangers!

  9. Too funny but I agree that your way is a good way of looking at it. So many people would pass by a real dog in the same situation and think nothing of it. It's good to know there are some very concerned citizens out there.

    Thanks for the reminders!

  10. That is so great that someone was paying attention. It could have been a real dog. We hose our doggies off every day to try to keep them cool. They have plenty to drink too. Hope you have a very fun day.

  11. Life Student – How frustrating! I can't believe they just had a machine. I hope the dog was okay.

    Peggy – Too funny!

Julia – I am not sure it would have even occurred to me to wonder if it was real… I probably would have been like this person!

    jen – Me too!

    Marg – I agree… I'm glad that someone called.

  12. I'd love to meet the person that thought the wooden dog was real. Didn't they think that something was up when it didn't move for a few minutes :0
