Why I’m returning to K9 Kamp

I participated as a featured blogger in the inaugural K9 Kamp last year, and had a great time. Needless to say, I was thrilled when Peggy & Jodi asked me to participate again! (In preparation for this year’s event, I revisited my posts from last year – and now I can’t stop singing “shopping is our greatest thrill” from Troop Beverly Hills. You’ve been warned.)

What is K9 Kamp, you might ask? It’s a series of fitness challenged designed to encourage you to get fit while spending time with your dog. Our fearless leaders/Kamp counselors are Peggy and Jodi from Peggy’s Pet Place and Kol’s Notes, respectively. Read on to find out why I’m participating, and how you can join us!

I’ve been on a bit of a fitness kick lately – I have been doing Weight Watchers again (the online version) and I even signed up to run a 5K this past weekend. Progress was slow, but relatively steady. Unfortunately, I then managed to sprain my ankle. Oops.

The sprain happened approximately two weeks ago. I’ve been out of commission ever since. It could have been worse – I can still walk on it, although it’s unfortunate that I’m becoming known for my trademark hobble. I never thought I’d say it, but I kind of miss running. (Seriously, if I told my 12 year old self that I’d uttered that statement, she would faint from shock. Heck, I’m kind of shocked that I just said that.)

Anyway, running’s not something I can really do with Bella anyway – she prefers a zigzag approach rather than a straight line. For that reason, K9 Kamp is just perfect – the activities are fun and they’re something Bella and I can actually do together. In addition, this will give me a reason to get moving again while I’m waiting for my ankle to be fully healed. Plus, it’s a blast!

So, will you join us? In addition to having fun, you’ll also have a chance to win some great prizes! Stop by Peggy’s Pet Place and Kol’s Notes every Friday through June 8 to find out the weekly challenges. Complete the challenges at your convenience, then share your experiences – if you blog, you can even join a weekly blog hop on Thursday. It’s that easy!

If you’re participating, join in today’s blog hop and tell us why. (If you link up this blog hop, you can even win an extra entry towards the K9 Kamp prizes.)  You can also follow #K9Kamp on Twitter for more updates. Hope to see you around Kamp!

  1. Hmmmm, I’m seeing some similarities here between you and Kristine at Rescued Insanity. 🙂

I just checked out the challenges and they don’t seem to be quite as difficult as last year’s. We may just take a shot at it ourselves.

    Good luck!!

  2. It sucks that both of us had ankle trouble right before our runs! How does that happen? Is there some sort of dog blogger karma we need to stock up on?

I hope your ankle heals soon so you are able to participate in all the fun!

    • I know… so weird! Honestly, I know so many people who were injured working out recently. I’m beginning to think the lesson is to not exercise… kidding, kidding. 😉

  3. Ow, sorry about your ankle. I think hobbling is a valid form of locomotion for k9kamp.
I’m so excited that you are joining us again this year! I hope Bella has lots of fun.

  4. This sounds like fun. Maybe Rita and I will play along.
Sorry to hear about your ankle! I’ve been in that same ‘sitch before and it’s no fun when you’re training is going along well and then you get side-lined by an injury! Rest up!

  5. ♫ Beverly Hills, What a Thrill!♪ Great, now I’ll be wandering around muttering “Patches? We don’ need no stinkin’ patches!” all weekend long. Thanks a HEAP! LOL, can’t wait to hear all about you & Bella with this year’s kamp!

    • I apologize… I have a mild obsession with that movie. I was out of town for a wedding last year and it came on the hotel TV – no one could pry me out of the room for 2 hours. 🙂

  6. Sorry to hear about your ankle. I have some physical limitations, so Paige and I won’t be running any marathons, for sure! This is our first K9Kamp, and I’m incorporating Paige’s training (basic obedience & service dog training) with the Kamp challenges. Hope you and Bella have a great first week–an no more injuries!
