A basket of cuteness awaits…

So, last week I didn’t give you Friday links at all. This week, you’re getting them on Sunday. Clearly, I need to work on my time management skills. Better late than never, right? Anyway… given that today is Easter, I bet you can guess our theme:

  1. First up, your punny pet names: Bunny Bono and Eddie Bunny.
  2. You guys. I can’t. These photos are just… I mean… they complete me.
  3. You probably already know that I love referencing Bunnicula. Obviously, I am unable to move on. So, here’s a link that involves Bunnicula.
  4. Speaking of scary bunnies, I feel blessed that I never encountered one of these Easter Bunnies of Doom when I was a kid.
  5. Eek. Let’s cleanse our palates with this photo of a bunny getting a bath.
  6. I seriously want to go shopping with this bunny.
  7. Get out the tissues for this next link. Happy tears, I promise.
  8. Remember, it’s much better to adopt a chocolate bunny rather than a real one this weekend. No rash decisions, people!
  9. Dogs get all of the press for herding, but this rabbit wants to prove that he can do the job just fine, thank you.
  10. If you’re having company over today, might I suggest you invest in a little mood lighting? It will complement the new art that you should also make quite nicely. (Peeps everywhere!)
  11. I know it’s a little late in the game, but perhaps you could also indulge in some other bunny-related crafts.

Finally, have you ever wondered what would happen if a “vicious” Pit Bull met a baby bunny? Wonder no more. The answer? Magic.

Squee. Squee, indeed.

Imitation is the sincerest form of insanity

Today’s post is inspired by my pal Kristine from Rescued Insanity. She recently shared some common search terms that led people to her blog. The results were pretty entertaining. (Go check them out… I’ll wait. Funny, right?)

They (?) say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. So, I’ve decided to flatter the heck out of Kristine today and steal borrow get inspired by her idea.

Anyway… to the search terms!

In not-shocking news, a lot of people end up here by searching for “punny dog names” or “punny cat names” (and occasionally, for “punny animal names”). One day, I truly hope to become the preeminent website for ridiculously punny names. A gal can dream, after all.

“it’s funny how people twist words” – I hope so, as that’s my bread and butter.

“pet names for hairy men” – I wonder if one of my punny pet names was of use. I’m not sure if I’m flattered or frightened that this searcher ended up here.

“What kind of dog is in the Travelers commercial?” - Apparently, this question has haunted many an Internet searcher. I noticed a ton of variations on this question. Chopper the dog is spreading the word about the awesomeness of the mixed breed. Mutts unite!

“sunshine on my puppy” – Makes me happy…

Vintage Bella

“bella freud and husband” – I’m just going to help you out by leaving this link here.

“frowning quokka” – I don’t know if you’ve ever seen a quokka, but I’m not sure they are capable of frowning.

“same love gay dog” and “gay dog love.blogspot” - Well, I know why these two led you here, although the structure of your search terms puzzles me a bit. (Someone also found this site by searching “gay jude collin the pirata” – I have no idea what that means.)

“Why do you tilt your head when you are confused” and “why do we tilt our heads when confused to the right” - Because it seems to work for the dogs, so I thought I’d give it a try.

“power stones fan” - In fact, I’m tilting my head right now.

“my mom signs to my dog” - Pics or it didn’t happen.

“dog chewed letters on name tag. can’t read” and “dog walker didn’t show” - I am sorry to hear both of those things, but I’m not sure how I can help you… although I might suggest you get both a new name tag and a new dog walker.

“panties in a bunch better words” – I’m glad to see I’m not the only nerdy person who thinks about this stuff.

“self carrying dog blanket” – I smell a million-dollar idea. Any leads on a self-carrying poop bag? I’m placing my order right now.

“hello is it” – this blog you’re looking for? (I think this search term delighted me the most. I wonder how many confused Lionel Richie fans end up here.)

“buy goose northern Virginia” – All those goose puns are finally catching up with me, I guess. I do not actually run an underground goose market, however.

“northern Virginia bunnies for photographers” – I assume there’s some photographer out there looking for a few good bunny models? Unfortunately, if I do have a bunny modeling agency, it is only imaginary (much like the second season of Models, Inc.).

“massage on Thanksgiving” – You’re barking up the wrong tree, bud.

“professor Garfield” – Given that I only talk about the cat, I have a feeling that this blog was not the professor you were looking for. (I do enjoy the search terms containing some variation on the Garfield “down doobie doo down down” comic.)

list of puns furrever eggcelent” – Now this one makes sense to me.

“why does every kid want a puppy?” – Um, because they’re awesome. Why don’t you just ask me why every kid wants ice cream?

“tell me more about puppies” – Happy to be of service. Pull up a chair and start surfing the archives. You might be here a while.

“no you love puppies and cupcakes” – Why, yes. Yes I do. I never claimed otherwise.

“I still highly want to” – I got nothin’. Follow your dreams. You can reach your goals.

Swing by Rescued Insanity (if you didn’t do so already, even though I told you I’d wait) to see what terms Kristine shared and to check out some funny terms in the comments. Then share your funny search terms below!

Vampire Dog is no Bunnicula

I fully realize that the title of this post will make no sense to the majority of people. Such is the life of a pop culture addict.

Anyway, this is the trailer for a real movie:

It looks… not great. However, I may have already added it to my Netflix queue and might secretly watch it one night in the privacy of my living room. Only the dogs will know, and they won’t be telling anyone else about it. (Maybe they should have called it Dogcula instead.)

What it really makes me want to do, however, is revisit the Bunnicula books of my youth. Anyone else remember those?

Saturday Night Links: Cat Video Edition!

This week’s Friday link roundup is a tad late… so we’ll just call it a special installment of Saturday Night Links, okay?

  1. First up, your punny pet name: Aaron Purr.
  2. I know dogs like chew toys, but apparently cats do too. However, I wouldn’t recommend getting your cat one of these.
  3. I’m not really sure what’s happening here, but I wish I was relaxed as this cat.
  4. On a completely serious note, this cat is my new hero.  As is this guy.
  5. You know I can’t resist a great Game of Thrones reference. (After all, a Lannister always spays his pets.) As such, I obviously enjoyed this video of a cat singing the theme song.
  6. Speaking of cat videos, did you know that there is a whole festival devoted to the topic? Here’s a first-hand account.
  7. It’s time to take cat videos to the next level – play with shelter cats online when you’re looking to adopt!

Finally, today’s video is about an otter. Just kidding. It’s obviously about a cat. Don’t blink or you might miss him.

(via Bunny Food)

So, there you have it – enough cat videos to keep you busy for a while. If not, then just stare into this drawer of kittens until you’re satisfied.

Make of our paws one paw…

I’m using the term “paw” quite loosely here, as you’ll see…

First, I’m happy to tell you that (currently) the knots in my stomach have loosened a little. I’m still not back to normal, but I think I’m taking steps in that direction.

Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled linkage. Today’s theme? Odd couples.

  1. Your punny pet names: Mutt Abbott and Mew Costello. (Or, if you prefer: Bud Rabbit and Lou Dogstello. Also, here’s a bonus pun for you.)
  2. You guys. This dog and cheetah are just… Internet, you have outdone yourself.
  3. In other spot-related news, can someone please explain to me why this piglet looks so much like the aforementioned cheetah?
  4. Apparently baa-baa-bird is now the word.
  5. Speaking of things I’ve heard, it seems that chicks really dig cats. (I’m officially declaring this one a trend. You know, because I have authority to do that.)
  6. Crabs: friends or toys that don’t require batteries? You be the judge.
  7. This bunny, lion & dog trio are just too much to handle. (But are they Super Golden Friends? We may never know.)
  8. Next movie pitch: The Fawn & the Hound. (This time, I demand a happy ending.)
  9. Finally, I’m also a sucker for a good game of tug. This one’s pretty fun.

I chose today’s featured video in large part due to the commenter who referred to them as Rovermeo & Gentooliet. (Also, due to the commenter who made up a punny song about it.) I’m not going to lie, I’m somewhat confused as to how this scene occurred and I’m not about to suggest these two actually get to hang out, but still…

So there you have it… happy Friday! (Unrelated Friday the 13th link: in spite of my rural upbringing, this one is so me.) I hope I’ve made up for last week’s hiatus!

Adorable adoptables in northern Virginia: Bunny hop edition!

Bella loves bunnies… I think. She did have a bunny cousin, and she tried to lick him during their first meeting. However, she tried to lick a goose once too, so who knows what’s going on in that puppy brain of hers.

Anyway, all that is a prelude to some very special adoptables. Today, I’m participating in the Second Annual Rabbit Adoptathon, founded by the All Things Dog Blog. This year, the hop (wordplay!) is co-hosted by afFURmation and Bunny’s Blog. (We participated last year too – I told you that Bella loves her bunnies.)

First up, allow me to introduce you to Oreo II. (If you’re wondering – yes, I did choose him because of the Roman numerals. I’m a nerd that way.) Oreo II is an adoptable American rabbit from the Humane Society of Fairfax County (HSFC). This sweet little guy is dog friendly (and cute as a button).

Up next, meet Bella. (Good name, right?) This little lady is a Dutch/Cinnamon mix available from Friends of Rabbits in Centreville, Virginia. She’s sweet, calm and friendly. On top of that, she’s downright gorgeous!

If you have room in your home (and your heart) for one of these beautiful bunnies, contact HSFC or Friends of Rabbits. If you know someone else who might be interested, please share this post. Let’s find some homes for Oreo II and Bella!

The pugs will see you at the crossroads…

Happy Friday! On to the links:

  1. Your punny pet names: Pug E. Pug and Michael Puglas. (These were obviously inspired by #2 on today’s list.)
  2. Bone Pugs-N-Harmony. Seriously, you guys… I can’t even. This offering rendered me speechless for about five minutes. Pug Life!
  3. Once you’ve watched that, the occasional expletives over at Text from Dog will probably not phase you too much. This one might be my favorite. (Thanks to Katherine from Life with Arie for sharing this one on Twitter!)
  4. I can’t get enough… enjoy May the Ads Be Ever in Your Favor. (It’s no May the Kibble Be Ever in Your Flavor, but I’m probably just biased.)
  5. Speaking of ads, I could play with this Gendered Advertising Remixer for hours, I think.
  6. I’m not a huge April Fool’s Day fan, but I did enjoy this one involving dogs in glasses. (Bonus non-April Fool’s links – Cats in Clothes! Or at cafes!)
  7. I love baseball. In honor of Opening Day, enjoy some team-related cute.
  8. I plan to do some baking for Easter brunch on Sunday – although I’m not sure I’ll be feeling this ambitious, I cannot deny that these bunny cake pops are extremely charming.
  9. Having a rough day? These thirteen simple steps will get you through it. I honestly can’t decide which one is my favorite. (Great minds think alike – Pamela from Something Wagging This Way Comes shared this one on Facebook yesterday too.)
Finally, this week’s video reminded me of The Big Bang Theory:

The look on the face of the other cat says it all.

So tell me, what are you up to this weekend?  I will be allowing my heart to go on tonight, while revisiting Titanic on the big screen. I did promise them I’d never let go, after all.

Caption this: Easter Bunny training program

I think Bella is getting a little too into this whole Easter thing. Although I must admit, she does have the ears for it.

Also, I said it last year, but it bears repeating… rabbits are not Easter toys. Spread the word and encourage people not to give live bunnies (or chicks, ducklings, etc.) as Easter gifts. Stick with chocolate or a snuggle-worthy stuffed animal. As you can see, Bella has approved the content of this message.

BlogPaws Episode 5: Blogging with the stars

Previously… I ate some cheesecake and finished the educational portion of Day 1.

After learning about various bloggy things, the first day of sessions was over.  It was time to head back out into that big lobby and chat it up once again before our screening of Spooky Buddies.  Luckily, I quickly encountered Kim from This One Wild Life, who was kind enough to allow me to be her wingwoman (wingblogger?) for the evening.

We grabbed a glass of wine (farewell to my final drink ticket) and some popcorn (in my book, wine goes with anything) while we waited for the evening’s festivities to get underway.

After mingling for a bit, the doors opened and we headed inside.  We picked up some movie snacks and grabbed a seat a few rows from the front.  Little did we know that the rows in front of us would later be removed and we’d be in the very first row… not that I’m complaining, but it was somewhat unexpected.  Anyway, Kim and I chatted for a while about this and that – it was like hanging out with an old friend.  (Kim, feel free to correct me in the comments if you thought it was more like hanging out with an annoying person who won’t go away… I kid, I kid.)

Here’s the coolest part… not long before the movie began, Kim and I checked our Twitter feeds (hey, it’s a blogging conference) to find out the results of the Petties (it’s like the Oscars, but for pet blogs).  Be the Change for Animals (which Kim co-founded) won for Best Cause Blog!  It was a pretty amazing moment – and fortunately, the BlogPaws photographer happened to swing by at the perfect time and get it on camera.

(Check out her acceptance speech – Be the Change for Animals donated its $1,000 to Best Friends Animal Society.  Pretty great, huh?)

Not long after that, it was time for the movie premiere of Spooky Buddies – BlogPaws was the first press screening in the country.  I’ll admit, I’ve never seen any of the other movies in the franchise, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.

The basic story – the five main characters (a.k.a the Buddies, a group of five adorable Golden Retriever puppies) encounter the legend of the Howl-oween Hound and must stop Warwick the Warlock’s evil plan before it’s too late.

The movie was cute… not necessarily one I would have sought out on my own, but I definitely think kids would like it.  I actually enjoyed it – there was something about the crowd (including dogs barking at the screen) that just made it a fun experience.  Here’s the trailer:

Obviously, I’m not the only blogger writing up her thoughts on her Spooky Buddies experience these days.  For a few more, go visit Bocci’s Beefs (and find out how many stand-ins each puppy had on set), My Tail Hurts from Wagging So Much (for an interview with the director), and The Chronicles of Cardigan (for a firsthand account of what it was like to watch the movie with your pups).

After the movie, it was time for a Q&A session with the director.  I have to imagine that working with kids and puppies is quite the challenge, but he really seemed to enjoy it.

Once the Q&A ended, we had the opportunity to get our photo taken
with one of the stars – an adorable puppy dressed in a bunny costume.
The photographer wasn’t very quick on the draw – which didn’t work so
well when a tired puppy was involved.

In the interest of getting these
photos done quickly so that the pup could get out of his duds and take a
nap, Kim and I did our photo as a duo.  Once I have a copy, I’ll
definitely share it here.

Once that was all done, Kim invited me to crash a Greenies happy hour that she was invited to attend at the hotel bar.  I was a bit hesitant, but I’m glad I let her talk me into it.  I had a fantastic time chatting with Doreen from Doggies and Stuff, Jess from Indy Dog Blog (a party crasher like me), and others.

Eventually, it was time for me to say goodnight and head home.  After I got home, I snuggled with Bella and caught up on Project Runway.

One day down, one more to go.  I was able to attend the second day, but I did end up ducking out a bit early due to the hurricane. Never fear, I still have lots to tell you.

Up next?  More sessions, some great speakers, a photo shoot or two, and meeting up with some more of my favorite bloggers.

Things’ll go your way…

No theme today… just a hodgepodge of random things that I’m enjoying.  It seemed fitting to send you into this potentially gorgeous weekend with several random doses of silly:

  1. As always, we begin with punny pet names: Maya Rudog and Kristen Pig (totally what I would name a potbelly pig if I had one, by the way).  This week, they’re inspired by Bridesmaids, which I saw last weekend.  Hilarious. (As a result, I also have Wilson Phillips on the brain – in fact, I may have serenaded Bella with Hold On this morning.)
  2. All of this lovely summer weather has me thinking about days gone by… and these Jim Henson themed cakes are a perfectly sweet accompaniment to my nostalgia.  What I wouldn’t give to have my own heckling balcony, like Statler and Waldorf
  3. So… have you ever wondered what would happen if the dialogue in classic Peanuts comics was replaced with random tweets?  Probably not, but the answer is out there anyway – visit @Peanutweeter to find out.  I can’t do the hilarity justice here, but I especially liked this one.  (Speaking of Twitter, follow me at @wantmorepuppies and say hi!)
  4. Additional blast from the past brought to the present: Jem, narrated honey badger style.
  5. I’m going to indulge my nerd side here for a moment.  This blog post on punctuation made me smile… really.
  6. Animals riding on animals?  Sounds like a winner to me.  Enjoy a Chihuahua riding a tortoise and then let the cute continue with a baby sea lion riding a turtle.  Hmmm… why are turtles and tortoises the preferred method of transportation?  Given their lack of speed, you think they’d be hitching a ride instead.
  7. I have nothing witty to say about this next one, so here you go: cute bunnies jumping.
  8. This dog wants to swim with the dolphins, and this one wants to hang out with a cow.  It’s a crazy and adorable world out there.

Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who’s the most random of them all?  Based on the following video, it’s probably me (at least today).  However, I cannot stop laughing when I watch it:

(via Jezebel)

Thanks for being such wonderful readers… if I could, I’d send you all a puppy bouquet.  I’m participating in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure tomorrow – it’s the first time I’m doing it as a runner!  Wish me luck, and have a weekend full of wags!
