Today, I thought I’d share a classic Bella photo with you, circa 2004. Obviously, Bella did not approve of the fact that I was giving her a bath. Her (completely unintentional) comic timing was impeccable, however:

Give me liberty, but not a bath

So just where have I been lately? (Aside from the obligatory storm prep, of course.) Good question. Among other things, I was beset by allergies, went to a conference, took Bella to the vet, attended a wedding, hung out with friends, and gave Bella a bath. I meant to blog as well, but it just didn’t happen. I guess I needed a bit of a break.

I’m hoping to schedule a few posts today before the inevitable power outage, but we’ll see how far I get. The storm may have other ideas.

In any event, the photo below represents how Bella felt about this entire weekend. On Saturday, she visited the vet, where she was poked and prodded. She has allergies and a slight bacterial infection on her paws, so she’s now the victim of a medicated spray twice daily, in addition to antibiotics and a weekly sponge bath of her legs with medicated shampoo. The vet also recommended a full bath with the medicated shampoo to kick things off. Bella did not approve. Talk about making me feel guilty…

Press release: Dog quits ZZ Top

I’m a little off my game this week. Instead of your usual Friday link roundup, today I’m sharing a few photos. (After all, I missed my usual Wordless Wednesday post.) Tomorrow, I’ll have a special Saturday edition of linky goodness for you. After that, perhaps I’ll be back on track. We’ll see…

Anyway, you may remember that Tavish was kind of a scraggly guy when he first came to live with us. When we had him groomed for the first time, he cleaned up quite nicely. However, he was having some tooth issues then and wouldn’t let the groomer do anything to his face, hence his ZZ Top facial hair.

Today, he took his second trip to the groomer, and the ZZ Top days are no more. Check him out:

Not too shabby, huh? (Although perhaps I should have waited and just let him go as ZZ Top for Halloween.)

After a trip to the groomer, he’s always kind of pooped. So, he and Bella decided to hop on the couch for a nap. (She’s all about the moral support, that one.)

It’s Friday… let’s get to the linkage!

  1. First up, your punny pet names are inspired by this slideshow (oh… hello there, Slide 15): Cullen Bones, Nathan Blue Jaydrian, and Pom Daley. (Seriously, I want to meet a Pomeranian named Pom Daley. It’s my new dream.)
  2. Speaking of punny pet names, this week I learned that Prince Harry owns a racehorse named Usain Colt. How is it possible that I never came up with that one on my own? (Bonus link: Animals with misleading names.)
  3. Emmylou Harris rocks. Check out her new project, Woofstock.
  4. Um, I would watch the heck out of Animals Acting Like Sharks Week.
  5. You know I’m a fan of all things Seussical. Thus, I loved this collection of advertising artwork from Dr. Seuss.

  7. On another nostalgia-related note… moves like Chandler!
  8. Here’s one for the Things Bella and Tavish Will Never Do files. (Oh, Corgis. Always good for a smile.) Yup… I adopt dogs that take their cues from the Gremlins.

Play in the pool, not the drool

Hot. So hot. (As you can see, the heat temporarily rendered me unable to produce normal sentences. I’ll attempt to remedy that.) To the links!

  2. Before we get into the linkage, I just wanted to remind you that you have until July 4th to help pair service dogs with military veterans in need. It just takes one click!
  3. Is it hot where you are too? If so, how do you plan to cool off this weekend? These two dogs have some good ideas.
  4. Or maybe you otter try this method instead. (The face he makes in that video is the same one I make every morning. True story.)
  5. Want to go out? Get cleaned up and make sure to rock some stylish summer threads. Take a walk and then try some of these pickup lines.
  6. You could also take in a baseball game or go to a concert. (I’d probably skip the vet though, if possible.)

It’s always a good idea to hit the pool. No, not that kind of pool. This kind. Or, you know, you could just do this…

Whatever you do this weekend, remember that a dog in a hot car is a bad idea. Here’s how you can help fight the stupidity.

So far this week, the focus has been on spa days (and sudsy pups). Bella doesn’t mind some of the amenities at my day spa, but she’d prefer to skip the bath part of it all.
