Dog carols: Here We Come a Sniff-Sniffing & Deck the Bowls

It’s time for some more caroldies! Let’s twist some new tunes today…

Here We Come A-Sniff Sniffing

Here we come a-sniff sniffing
Among the yards so green.
Here we come a-tracking
The squirrels that we have seen.

Food and treats come to you,
And to you your rope bone too.
And dog bless you, and send you, a pup this new year,
And dog send you a pup this new year.

Dog bless the family in this house,
Dog bless the felines too.
Should you get a dog this year,
Rescue’s the thing to do.

Love and snuggles come to you,
And some puppy kisses too,
And dog bless you, and send you, a pup so very dear,
And dog send you a pup so very dear.

Deck the Bowls

Deck the bowls with lots of food,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Share your dinner or else you are rude,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Don we now our eating poses,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Don’t ignore our furry noses,
Fa la la la la la la la la.

Set some full food bowls before us,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
We’ll thank you with a barking chorus,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Eating gives us so much pleasure,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Today, our intake do not measure.
Fa la la la la la la la la.

We can smell the feast a-cooking,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
We’ll steal the ham when you aren’t looking,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Either way we’ll feel like winners,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
As we’ll have eaten five full dinners,
Fa la la la la la la la la.

Apparently, I’m not the only one in the mood for caroldies today. Stop by Something Wagging This Way Comes to learn the lyrics to Here Comes Puppy Dog, The 12 Days of Christmas (puppy version), and I Walked the Dog on Christmas Day.

Adorable Combat: Cat vs. Tree

If you are a long-time reader, you may know that I love caroldies. (For the uninitiated, that’s a parody of a Christmas carol.)  So, I can’t let a season pass without sharing a few new ones with you. Today?

I Saw Three Cats

I saw three cats come walking in,
On Christmas day, on Christmas day.
I saw three cats come walking in,
On Christmas day in the morning.

And what was in their mouths, dear me,
On Christmas day, on Christmas day?
And what was in their mouths, dear me,
On Christmas day in the morning?

A portion of my Christmas tree,
On Christmas day, on Christmas day.
I feared the worst was soon to be,
On Christmas day in the morning.

The living room was a sight to see,
On Christmas day, on Christmas day.
They’d opened the presents and knocked down the tree,
On Christmas day in the morning.

Seriously though – it’s better to have your cat knock down the tree in the following video than a real one. Consider making it cat-proof.

Paw Night Long

Yesterday, I promised you some Saturday Night Links. It’s time for me to deliver…

  1. First up, your punny pet names: Nigel Lythgrowle and Whinin’ L. Richie. (Also, enjoy this bonus punny action and the next installment of my continuing Lionel Richie obsession.)
  2. Speaking of puns (because I always am), I’m loving these street fliers… pages and pages of tearable puns!
  3. Possible new reality show: So You Think You Can See Puppies at a Dance Festival.
  4. It’s time for some pretty – enjoy these Wildlife Photographer of the Year winners.
  5. You know what else you need today? Puppies playing. You’re welcome.
  6. I bet this cat has some pointers on how to pick up chicks. Once you’ve mastered the art of the pickup, these dogs will teach you to take your date for a drive.

As always, we end with a video. With all apologies to Jewel, this video was meant for me, and I was meant for it.

PuGyver: He can fix anything!

It’s time for some Friday linkage… but first, I have a special treat to share with you. I’m honored to have a guest post on Grouchy Puppy today. It’s called “5 Things You Shouldn’t Say to a Senior Dog Owner” – head over there and check it out!

Now, to the links:

  1. This week’s punny pet name: Digmund Freud (or Sighound Freud).
  2. You know I love Henri the cat – and now he’s back with a message for this political season. (Includes the phrase “castration without representation” – how could you resist?)
  3. I am unable to resist a good English major joke. And a good catch phrase.
  4. Did you catch the series on Freud and Fido over at Freud’s Butcher? Some very interesting stuff.
  5. Is your dog is a paradox too?
  6. These paintings of Darth Vader and other villains cuddling bunnies are awesome.
  7. A Nutella food truck? I want to go to there. Like right now.
  8. Cookie Monster and Grover parody some recent movies and TV shows. My inner child rejoices. Does yours?
  9. I just can’t stop… it’s TV theme songs galore! They’re all stuck in my head now, but it’s worth it.

Continuing on the TV theme song theme (yup, I said it), I’m sure you’ll understand why I couldn’t resist sharing today’s video:

Punny!

(Bonus TV theme song – last week, I shared the Game of Thrones theme sung by a cat. In the interest of equal time, here’s a canine version.)

Make of our paws one paw…

I’m using the term “paw” quite loosely here, as you’ll see…

First, I’m happy to tell you that (currently) the knots in my stomach have loosened a little. I’m still not back to normal, but I think I’m taking steps in that direction.

Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled linkage. Today’s theme? Odd couples.

  1. Your punny pet names: Mutt Abbott and Mew Costello. (Or, if you prefer: Bud Rabbit and Lou Dogstello. Also, here’s a bonus pun for you.)
  2. You guys. This dog and cheetah are just… Internet, you have outdone yourself.
  3. In other spot-related news, can someone please explain to me why this piglet looks so much like the aforementioned cheetah?
  4. Apparently baa-baa-bird is now the word.
  5. Speaking of things I’ve heard, it seems that chicks really dig cats. (I’m officially declaring this one a trend. You know, because I have authority to do that.)
  6. Crabs: friends or toys that don’t require batteries? You be the judge.
  7. This bunny, lion & dog trio are just too much to handle. (But are they Super Golden Friends? We may never know.)
  8. Next movie pitch: The Fawn & the Hound. (This time, I demand a happy ending.)
  9. Finally, I’m also a sucker for a good game of tug. This one’s pretty fun.

I chose today’s featured video in large part due to the commenter who referred to them as Rovermeo & Gentooliet. (Also, due to the commenter who made up a punny song about it.) I’m not going to lie, I’m somewhat confused as to how this scene occurred and I’m not about to suggest these two actually get to hang out, but still…

So there you have it… happy Friday! (Unrelated Friday the 13th link: in spite of my rural upbringing, this one is so me.) I hope I’ve made up for last week’s hiatus!

A dog in a hot car’s just not right…

Today, we’re going with some vintage Bella from 2007 combined with a PSA from the pup herself. (She totally wrote this song.)

Hot dog, summer in the city
Whether a Beagle, Yorkie, or a Pitty.
Why can’t I just nap like a kitty?
It isn’t getting any cooler in the city.

All around people being brain dead
Even though that car is hotter than a match head.

But it’s not hard to be a pearl,
Be smart about the world.
Come on, come on, and see the light
A dog in a hot car’s just not right.

And babe, don’t you know it’s a pity,
Some people just aren’t all that bright
In the summer, in the city
In the country, or the city.

Stay cool, no need for that pity
Just remember this little ditty.
Sure enough, you’ll be sitting pretty
Looking out for dogs in the country and the city.

I’m already filled with dread knowing that the usual hot car stories are just around the corner… as usual, I’m sure the news cycle will bring out my Hulk-ian tendencies. (As in, “Hulk smash idiots who leave their dogs in hot cars.” Hulk smash a lot.)

Caption this: Stairway to Bella

And she’s making a stairway to Bella.
When you get there you know, that the stairs will be closed.
With a treat you can get to the next floor.
Ooh, you must pay to use the stairway to Bella.

I seriously can’t help myself. The husband sent me this photo and it was just begging for a Led Zeppelin parody, don’t you think?

Now, it’s your turn. How would you caption this Bella?

Cat’s all, folks…

Before we get into today’s links, I have some fun news to share. I recently learned that this blog was nominated for eCollegeFinder’s Top Pet Blogs Award. The winners were announced this week, and we made the list of the Top 107 Pet Blogs! (I don’t know why it’s 107, but I kind of dig it.) Pretty cool, huh? Even cooler, some of our blogging friends made the list too. Check out the winners here.

Now, to the linkage. Last week, I featured some otters. This week, I’m feline like featuring some cats. (I blame this list of strange cat facts I encountered a few days ago.) Let’s get to it…

  1. Your punny pet name for this week: Terrence Meoward.
  2. Cheetah cub overload! You’re welcome.
  3. I have a feeling that Kristine from Rescued Insanity will like this next one. A cat trained to hug… could the video be any cuter? (On a related note, Kristine is working on an awesome project to show the world just how awesome cats can be. Swing by to find out more and submit your own story!)
  4. The cats in this video give a new meaning to the term copycat.
  5. By no means am I endorsing this brand (I’m no expert on cat food) – that being said, I have to admit that this ad made me laugh. For Pete’s sake, it has Chris Parnell in it. I’m not immune to the charms of Dr. Spaceman.

Finally, I give you this week’s video. I need to hire this guy to do the music for my punny production company. (I’ve got tons of characters, after all.) Wonder if he could do the same thing with plush dogs?

I know… it’s a weird video, but it just felt right. I’m a weird gal.

What are you up to this weekend? Don’t forget to check out Peggy’s Pet Place and Kol’s Notes for this week’s K9 Kamp challenge. Also, you have until Tuesday to enter the two Happy Tails Spa giveaways I announced last week, so why not do it this weekend?

Excuse me, you have a singing Bellagram

Hello, hello, hello, you called? I can’t hear a thing.
I cannot hear you in the yard you see, see.
Wha-Wha-What did you say? Oh, you’re just too far away.
Sorry, I cannot hear you I’m busy sniffing.

K-kinda sniffing.
K-kinda sniffing.
Sorry I cannot hear you
I’m kinda sniffing.

Just a second, it’s my favorite toy with which to play
And I cannot come in the house while I’m fetching it, okay?
You should’ve called me sooner before I was running free,
And now you won’t stop calling, but I’m busy sniffing.

Stop callin’, stop callin’, I don’t want to come in the door.
I want to stay outside and play in the grass more.
Stop callin’, stop callin’, I don’t want to come in the door.
I want to stay outside and play in the grass more.

The heart wants what it wants – and today my heart wanted to parody another Lady Gaga songI’ll stop now. (Also, I won’t lie. I’m kind of addicted to Instagram. Do you use it? If so, follow me and let’s connect!)
