World domination… of the canine persuasion

It’s Friday. So, are you pondering what I’m pondering?

  1. This week’s punny pet name: Fleyonce Knowles.
  2. Bonus punny name for which I cannot take credit: Ermione Granger. Double bonus: Barky Joel and Christopher Crossbreed. Triple bonus: more mouse puns than you can shake a cheese stick at.
  3. You know, I simply don’t feature enough ermines around here. Thus, I give you… one very persistent ermine.
  4. I think Beyonce might be wrong. Who run the world? My money is on these diabolical pets. (If they’re making you nervous, just hold the hand of someone you love.)
  5. Regardless of who is running it, this hamster’s world looks pretty awesome.
  6. Maybe Corgis are running the world? I mean, that guy’s got some convincing arguments.

You know I love a song parody. (I also have a soft spot for videos combining Beyonce tunes with adorable pooches. I don’t know why.) Once this whole “running the world” theme popped into my head, a quick Google search revealed the perfect video for today’s post.

(Runner up: Who run the world? Squirrels!)

I wish I was creative enough to turn some of my parody stylings into actual videos (and that I could sing). I mean, I can’t even pick a favorite line. One Dalmatian can build a nation? Kibble we can devour? It’s just genius.

I, for one, welcome our new canine overlords.

Captain Pug, he’s my hero…

As you may or may not know, I love to share a good video on Earth Day. Last year, I featured a dog kissing the world. (Earth Day also fell on a Friday last year, so it was perfectly timed for a linkathon.)

This year, I’m digging the video I shared on Earth Day 2010 out of the archives – I had just started the blog a few weeks before. Given that I probably had one reader then (counting myself), I figured it was worth sharing again.

So, without further ado, I give you my hero…

To borrow from myself, here’s what I said last time. I think it still applies:

“Captain Pug.  He’s my hero.  Going to take pollution down to zero.  He is cuteness magnified, and he’s fighting on the planet’s side.  (Hat tip to Captain Planet for infiltrating my brain for decades.)   I mean, seriously… how cute and well-trained is this pug?  Also, if anyone knows how I can join that dog’s carpool, please let me know.  Best.  Commute.  Ever.

Earth!  Fire!  Wind!  Water!  Heart!  Puppies!  By your powers combined, he is Captain Pug, the cutest superhero ever.”

As a bonus (and so that I’m not just repeating myself), enjoy these photos I took at the National Zoo yesterday. Lions and flamingos and birds, oh my!

Happy Earth Day, folks.

The pugs will see you at the crossroads…

Happy Friday! On to the links:

  1. Your punny pet names: Pug E. Pug and Michael Puglas. (These were obviously inspired by #2 on today’s list.)
  2. Bone Pugs-N-Harmony. Seriously, you guys… I can’t even. This offering rendered me speechless for about five minutes. Pug Life!
  3. Once you’ve watched that, the occasional expletives over at Text from Dog will probably not phase you too much. This one might be my favorite. (Thanks to Katherine from Life with Arie for sharing this one on Twitter!)
  4. I can’t get enough… enjoy May the Ads Be Ever in Your Favor. (It’s no May the Kibble Be Ever in Your Flavor, but I’m probably just biased.)
  5. Speaking of ads, I could play with this Gendered Advertising Remixer for hours, I think.
  6. I’m not a huge April Fool’s Day fan, but I did enjoy this one involving dogs in glasses. (Bonus non-April Fool’s links – Cats in Clothes! Or at cafes!)
  7. I love baseball. In honor of Opening Day, enjoy some team-related cute.
  8. I plan to do some baking for Easter brunch on Sunday – although I’m not sure I’ll be feeling this ambitious, I cannot deny that these bunny cake pops are extremely charming.
  9. Having a rough day? These thirteen simple steps will get you through it. I honestly can’t decide which one is my favorite. (Great minds think alike – Pamela from Something Wagging This Way Comes shared this one on Facebook yesterday too.)
Finally, this week’s video reminded me of The Big Bang Theory:

The look on the face of the other cat says it all.
So tell me, what are you up to this weekend?  I will be allowing my heart to go on tonight, while revisiting Titanic on the big screen. I did promise them I’d never let go, after all.

A weekend of puppies & football lies ahead…

It’s Super/Puppy Bowl weekend!  I’m sure today’s theme will not surprise you…

  1. Your punny pet name: Meowrio Manningham.  (I had some trouble coming up with one today – so here are some more punny football names.)
  2. He’s no football player, but Ozzy the balancing dog is the most impressive athlete I’ve seen in a while.
  3. Hello… is it blending you’re looking for?  If so, you’ll enjoy this Super Bowl commercial from Toyota.  (The obsession continues.)
  4. On a loosely related note, here’s a Mister T tea set.
  5. Moving on… I’ll be making some cupcakes for our annual Super Bowl party.  (One of these days, I’ll also update my baking blog again.)  I hope mine turn out better than these.
  6. Puppies predicting the Super Bowl?  I hope they are wrong, but I can’t deny the cute.
  7. Something else important is happening on Sunday too – the Puppy Bowl!  Who is your favorite player?  (See them in action!)
  8. Another great thing about the Puppy Bowl?  It’s encouraging adoption!
  9. No need to focus solely on the puppies – this year, you can check out the equally awesome Elder Bowl!
  10. Don’t worry… there’s a little something for the cat lover too.  Here are your 30 cutest moments from the kitty halftime show.
I can’t wait to watch the game and cheer for the Giants.  However, I doubt there will be any instant replays that use slow-mo as well as the video below…

So what are your plans for the big game?  Are you participating in Super Dog Sunday?  Bella did last year, and we’ll be joining in the fun yet again.

I say a little prayer for mew…

Best training montage ever?  You be the judge.  (Bonus points for the perfectly chosen soundtrack.)

(via Jezebel)

Speaking of the soundtrack, I obviously had to mess with the lyrics (just a little).  I can’t help myself!  I did stop myself from posting the whole song, so there’s that…

I Say A Little Prayer for Mew

The moment I wake up
Before I put on my makeup
I say a little prayer for mew.
There’s a purr in the air, now,
As well as a lot of cat hair, now,
I say a little prayer for mew.
Forever, forever, you’ll stay in my heart
And I will love you
Forever, forever, we never will part
Oh, how I’ll love you
Together, together, that’s how it must be
To live without mew
Would only be heartbreak for me.
I’ve got more of these in the works, including a few special requests.  If you have a song you’d like to see parodied on the blog, feel free to leave your request below…

Hello, is it parody you’re looking for?

My Lionel Richie obsession is well-documented.  It should come as no surprise that when the video below landed in my inbox (courtesy of Pamela from Something Wagging), I was very excited.

Well, first I laughed so hard that I missed half the video, paused it, finished laughing, started it again from the beginning, and then was very excited.

(Hello from ant1mat3rie on Vimeo)

Maybe I really do need to join Lionel Richie Fans Anonymous.  It’s an addiction. (Pamela, that may make you my Lionel Richie dealer or just an enabler… either way, thanks for sending this my way!)

Dog songs: Britney Ears edition

You know I love a good song parody.  Perhaps you do too… or perhaps your reaction is best illustrated by this photo…

“Oh no… not this again.”

Either way, I have a new one for you today.  In case you’re wondering, I do take requests (unless the request is “stop posting these”).  To answer your next question: no, I don’t have formal parody training.  I’m entirely self-taught. Anyway, today’s song is inspired by “Baby One More Time.” Enjoy!

“Puppy One More Time”

by Britney Ears
Oh puppy puppy
I just love your cute face and nose
And your paws and tail and ears
Oh puppy puppy
I hope I’m the one you chose
I think there’s something right, here…
Feel free
To snuggle right next to me
Be my puppy
Cause I need a pup now
Oh because
Being puppy-less
Was killing me (and I)
I must confess
I really need (really need)
A four-legged buddy right by my side
So give me a sign
And wag at me, puppy, one more time

I saw puppies kissing Santa Claws

More caroldies from the requests file… credit goes to houndstooth from Tales and Tails for today’s inspiration.

I Saw Puppies Kissing Santa Claws

I saw puppies kissing Santa Claws,
over by the scratching post last night.
They didn’t see me sneak
with my camera to have a peek,
they thought that cat would let them play
while he was trying to sleep.
Then I saw puppies start licking Santa Claws,
underneath his chin furry and white.
Oh, how embarrassed he would have been,
if the cat had known I’d seen
all the puppies kissing Santa Claws last night.

On a related note, Santa Claws looks kind of grouchy…

I hope that Santa Claws visits your house tonight!

Bella the Snowdog

I told you I take requests… so, today I present with “Bella the Snowdog.”  (Hat tip to Pamela from Something Wagging for the suggestion.)

But first… a bonus video from 2010.  (We don’t have snow yet this year, and that’s fine by me!)

Bella the Snowdog

Bella the Snowdog, is a silly, happy pup.
With gigantic ears and a big black nose,
and a tail that’s always up.
Bella the Snowdog is a lazy dog they say,
Sometimes she runs around, but it’s pretty clear
that she likes to snooze all day.
There must be cozy blankets in that doggie bed she found.
For when she goes to take a nap, she doesn’t move around.
O, Bella the Snowdog,
dreams of chasing squirrels up trees.
When she dreams, she runs and barks and plays,
Happy to snooze the day away.

Before I go, I wanted to let you know that there’s still time to enter the Social Media for Social Good giveaway… today, the chance to earn entries through Google+ goes live.  I’ve included the Rafflecopter after the jump if you’re interested.
(If you haven’t entered via Twitter or Facebook yet, you can still do so.  For Facebook, click here.  For Twitter, click here.)  Good luck!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas,
Everywhere you go.
Take a look at the tree in the den, a dog under it once again,
With twinkling lights and a puppy all aglow.
It’s beginning to sound a lot like Christmas,
Soon I’ll hear the puppy snore.
But the prettiest sight I’ll see, is the puppy that will be,
Relaxing on the floor.

I’m all about the caroldies this week, apparently… any requests?

P.S. Guess who’s featured over at Coffee with a Canine today?
